Emergency Loans and Hardship Grants

Sometimes students get struck by financial troubles at some point in their university career, but help is available and the Advice Service can help you to access it.

Bridging Hardship Awards

The Bridging Hardship Awards are intended to support students through a difficult patch in their University career in order for them to continue studying and complete their degree. They are funded by donations from former students of the University. You can find out more on the Bridging Hardship Awards website. Our Advisors can help you if you need advice on how to put your application together.

Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund is designed to enable the University to help students who need extra financial support because they have:

  • higher than expected costs (such as single parents) or
  • they encounter an unexpected financial emergency (for example a burglary).

The Fund can be used for course-related costs such as:

  • childcare
  • exceptionally high books/equipment/travel costs
  • general living costs such as rent

You can find more information on the Access to Learning Fund on the University website and our Advisors can support you with your application.

Students' Union Emergency Loans

The Students' Union offers short term loans of up to £100 which are administered by our Advisors. You can access these loans by contacting an advisor
