Student Led Teaching Award Categories 2017


 

Award: Best Lecturer (1 for each faculty).

For this award we're looking for all-round incredible teaching! Typically teaching which inspires and motivates students towards academic excellence and where the member of staff's enthusiasm is obvious to their students.

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. Makes their teaching engaging and interesting
  2. Encourages students towards achieving academic excellence
  3. Recognises the importance of working with students & enjoys enhancing their education outside the classroom
  4. Demonstrates enthusiasm for their subject/ discipline.

 


 

Award: Best Communicator

  1. This award is for those lecturers who demonstrate excellent communication with their students.

    Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee:

  2. Provides clear guidance on the expectations of the course
  3. Gives clear and helpful feedback on assessments
  4. Communicates lecture content in an entertaining way –making lectures informative and engaging.
  5. Makes learning fun

 


 

Award: Most Supportive Academic Advisor:

This award is to recognise the Personal/Academic Advisor that has provided excellent support to students throughout the year.

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. Provides outstanding help & support to students
  2. Stands out to students as someone who cares for their wellbeing
  3. Ensures that they are consistently available for students during Office hours and via email                

 

 


 

Award: Most Inspiring Lecturer:

 

This award aims to recognize lecturers or tutors who have inspired their students through diversifying the curriculum, utilizing innovative teaching methods and inspiring students to think creatively.

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. Uses creative teaching methods to inspire student interest in their subject
  2. Delivers innovative content which examines a range of various perspectives
  3. Encourages students to think critically and creatively

 

 


 

Award: Best Graduate Teaching Assistant:

The University relies heavily on postgraduates in the delivery of contact time teaching (through tutoring and demonstrating) on many courses. This award recognises postgraduates for their contribution to the delivery of quality teaching at Manchester.

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. Inspires & encourages student interest in the subject
  2. Challenges & motivates students towards academic excellence
  3. Demonstrates their enthusiasm for their subject

 

 


 

Awards: Best supervision UG/PGT/PGR (one award for each level):

 

This Award celebrates Academics who have been outstanding supervisors for a piece of work (e.g. dissertation/ research project/ long essay).

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. Gives helpful and thorough advice to students
  2. Accommodates different learning styles
  3. Is a supportive and encouraging supervisor

 


 

Award: Best Support Staff/ Team:

This award recognises the people who go out of their way to help and support you at Manchester. Whether it’s the Counselling Service, your Student Support Office, Halls Wardens or someone else, get nominating!

Nominations will be checked for evidence that the nominee: 

  1. "goes the extra mile" to ensure that students are satisfied and that issues are effectively resolved
  2. acts promptly on student requests/queries and delivers what they say they will deliver, on time
  3. is friendly, helpful, dependable and reliable
