Our student leaders are incredible. Throughout the year, Society and Halls committees work tirelessly to positively impact the lives of their members. We want to celebrate all the work that our student leaders do, from putting on amazing and inclusive events, to creating impactful campaigns, to making their society super green.

Criteria to follow

Accordian left The Horizon Award Find more...

Where this award would usually recognise the progress a society has made in running more events or growing their membership, this year the Horizon Award will instead recognise the work so many societies have carried out across the board to adapt to a mostly online format and continued to offer opportunities to their members. There won’t be one single winner but instead we’ll be spotlighting society activity which may have done any of the following: provided social spaces online for members; promoted wellbeing; made a difference to wider communities; developed students’ skills. We encourage nominations of activity from all societies, new and established, of varying sizes and across categories.

When nominating a society, please include as much information as possible, including examples of how they have gone above and beyond to benefit society members. You can include pictures or documents to support your nomination.

  • This award is any society registered with the Students’ Union. If you are unsure, please contact the activities desk.
  • This award is decided solely based on nominations and information submitted. Ensure you nomination includes everything you wish to be considered.

Note: The Societies Team have decided not to offer a Society of the Year award this year. We feel that the work of society leaders deserves recognition across the board and want to spotlight what has been achieved by so many in the face of significant and unprecedented challenges. We recognise that this year many society leaders have not had a committee experience they would have imagined or wanted, and have also faced countless other challenges as students. With that in mind we want to recalibrate our approach to awards in order to recognise and celebrate the achievements of all, rather than selecting one overall Society of the Year winner.
