Campaigns and Democracy Manager (c. £27,500, 35hrs per week) 

At the University of Manchester Students' Union, our mission is to be the voice of students at Manchester, effecting change and enriching student life together. To help us fulfil this mission, we're excited to announce a vacancy for a Campaigns and Democracy Manager to lead on this vital work for us. 

Led/driven by a team of 8 elected student officers, campaigning and democracy are an essential part of the Union's work in ensuring that students are able ti bring about change on campus, locally and nationally. The Campaigns and Democracy Manager role provides leadership in developing a consistent and coordinated approach yo campaigning and democracy, underpinne by an active commitment to liberation and diversity in all Union activity, ensuring students are at the heart of and informaing all these areas of work. 
You may not have worked in the Higher Education or student movement before, but whatever your background you'll have proven skills and experience in creating impactful campaigns, working with/within democratic structures and a true commitment and knowledge of liberation and equality issues. You'll be experienced in managing staff and have a belief in coaching people to get the best out of them. With a focus on student led and outcome focussed working, you'll be responsible for leading and managing effective and impactful campaigns, for delivering our democratic structures and helping embed and deliver the organisation's Diversity and Liberation Strategy and enabling the strategy's ambition to be realised for students.

Head of Marketing and Communications (£33-37,000 35hrs per week) 

We are delighted to offer an opportunity to play a vital part on the work and future of the UK's largest students' union. After a period of restructure and development, we're recruiting a Head of Marketing and Communications to build an entirely new marketing function to engage and attract our student audience at a world-leading international university.

We're looking for someone with significant skills and experience in digital marketing with a clear, innovative and ambitious vision of the future of student engagement. This might be your first 'Head of' role, but you'll have substantial experience line managing and recruiting staff to get the best out of them, and be an expert in marketing with strong knowledge of the latest trends and successes in how to engage, promote to and communicate with students. With a strong understanding of current industry best practice you'll be responsible for strategic campaign planning and execution, management of an outstanding Marcomms team, and ultimately the look, feel and output of all our communication channels.

You'll provide expert strategic advice within the Union on how we engage our audiences with our diverse range of student engagement and commercial offers. As a member of our Senior Management Team, you'll play a hands-on role in delivering our ambitions to be a world class place to work that provides excellent vaue and impact for our students.

Student Angels Support Assistant (p/time, £9.00 per hour + Holiday Pay)

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Volunteering & Fundraising staff team at the Students’ Union to help lead a Student Angels volunteering project in collaboration with Manchester City Council and the LGBT Foundation. We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with an interest in mentoring and supporting student volunteers, who can manage a working relationship with key charity partners, and has excellent administration skills.

 

The project is a street-based safety initiative which involves teams of trained student leaders and volunteers heading out into the Manchester University area at peak times during the weekend to support our student community in a variety of ways.

Educational Engagement Coordinator (full-time, 12 months fixed-term)

Do you have the vision to help our students achieve great educational change? Do you have the experience, motivation & innovation to help all students identify as partners in their learning, providing varied opportunities for their voices to be heard?

We're in a new and energising phase of Educational Engagement at UMSU and are now recruiting an Educational Engagement Coordinator to work closely with the Educational Engagement Manager to lead the staff support for our ~1,200 elected Student Representatives and associated work  around quality assurance/enhancement, curriculum change, student appeals and complaints.

Working as part of our wider Education and Advocacy team (which provides services relating to Advice, Campaigns, Liberation, Democracy and Student Officer support) you'll have significant opportunity for cross-team working to support some amazing projects to empower our students at an individual, group & institutional level. 

You'll be joining at a time that will enable you to build on some fantastic foundations - continuing to develop strong relationships with Union and University colleagues and engage students in a progressive partnership approach.
