Front of House Supervisor

The University of Manchester Students’ Union is one of the largest Students’ Unions in the country with over 40,000 students. Our Front of House team are the first point of contact for everything from deliveries, gig tickets purchases, student enquiries and beyond. We’re looking for a Front of House Supervisor to help manage this vital function and support a team of student staff. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in supervising staff, with excellent customer service skills and a passion for providing the best experience for our wide and diverse membership.

Senior Bars Supervisor

The University of Manchester Students’ Union is one of the largest Students’ Unions in the country and with 40,000 students, with a sizeable turnover from our wet and food operation.With seven bars across the Union and Manchester Academy venues our Bars team are responsible for fantastic service standards and quality delivery in a lively fast paced environment. To support our bars operations we are now seeking to recruit a Senior Bars Supervisor.

As an ideal candidate for the role you will have a proven track record in supervising staff and having excellent customer service skills with a passion for providing the best experience for our wide and diverse membership.

We are now hiring for student staff to work in our expanding Commercial Department. If you are passionate about great quality food and provide exceptional standards of customer service then these roles could be perfect for you. Successful candidates will have a working knowledge in a kitchen environment, demonstrate exceptional standards and cash handling and show a passion for the hospitality industry. You will need to have a flexible approach as you will be working evenings, weekdays and weekends. The successful candidate will need to be able to work on their own initiative and within a team. Catering & Retail Assistant - £8.45/hr + holiday pay (Average hours – eight per week)

We’re looking for flexibility, initiative and great teamworking skills for these busy customer service roles.

We’re committed to producing fresh food, Fairtrade coffee and a great retail experience. You’ll work alongside our supervisors as part of a tight-knit team in an exciting, fast-moving environment, preparing food to order, cleaning and washing up, stock management, whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance with hygiene regulations at all times.

Union Bar Catering Assistant - £8.45 + holiday pay (Average hours – eight per week)

Bar Staff - £8.45ph + holiday pay

Venues Bar Staff : With over 400 shows a year, boasting the likes of Muse, Prince, The 1975, and Stormzy, Manchester Academy Venues are some of the busiest venues in the UK. Do you have excellent customer service skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced team and are high energy in nature? Then the venues bar staff position is for you

Union Bar Staff : The Union Bar is the social hub of the Union. With our newly developed food and cocktail menu and an ever increasing product range we are busier than ever. If you enjoy working in a bustling social environment with a huge variety of customers, serving food and great drinks and really going the extra mile for people then the Union Bar staff position is for you!

Key Resources:

To work in either role you’ll need to be available on Friday and Saturday evenings,  including some finishes as late as 06:00 (although that doesn’t mean you will have to work every single one!). You will also be expected to work at every Pangaea festival and be available for some shifts during Welcome Week. Union Bar by nature has more work available during the daytime hours but both will require commitment at evenings and weekends. For both positions you will need to show excellent customer service skills, team work and be high energy in nature. Please indicate your preference for Union Bar or Venues on your application.

Street Team Supervisor - £9.31ph (10 month contract, min 5 hours per week during Term Time) 

We are looking for an experienced supervisor with promotions experience and bags of enthusiasm to help us shape and support our new student Street Team. The Street Team will  support students to get the most from their time with the Students’ Union. You’ll be passionate about the Students’ Union and able to connect with others using a range of channels with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and lead a team.

Facilities Assistant - £8.45ph (+ Holiday Pay) 

We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and who enjoy a challenge to assist with back of house duties within the Students’ Union.  The role is varied, with duties including :

  • Events and room booking set up and break down
  • Audio and video set up
  • Waste and recycling management
  • Portering duties (training and PPE equipment will be provided)

You’ll be expected to work day, evenings and weekend shifts to suit the operational needs of the department and building, as well as staffing core Union events, including Welcome Week and Pangaea.

Legal Checker- £8.45ph (+ Holiday Pay) 

We’re looking to hire a student staff member to take on the role of Legal Checker for the Manchester Media Group. If you have an interest in law and would like to gain valuable experience within the media, then this role is for you! Successful candidates will have a knowledge of general law, including defamation and copyright, and have an interest in media law. Training will be available to help you develop your skills and knowledge base, as well as ongoing support from a professional media law consultant where needed. The successful candidate will also be hardworking, flexible and work well within a team.

In order to fulfil the role, you should be available for work on most Fridays during term time from September 2017.
