Catering, Retail & Bars Opportunities: Hiring for September 2017

We are now hiring for student staff to work in our expanding Commercial Department. If you are passionate about great quality food and provide exceptional standards of customer service then these roles could be perfect for you. Successful candidates will have a working knowledge in a kitchen environment, demonstrate exceptional standards and cash handling and show a passion for the hospitality industry. You will need to have a flexible approach as you will be working evenings, weekdays and weekends. The successful candidate will need to be able to work on their own initiative and within a team. We’re looking for flexibility, initiative and great teamworking skills for these busy customer service roles.

Catering & Retail Assistant - £8.45/hr + holiday pay (Average hours – eight per week)

We’re looking for flexibility, initiative and great teamworking skills for these busy customer service roles.

We’re committed to producing fresh food, Fairtrade coffee and a great retail experience. You’ll work alongside our supervisors as part of a tight-knit team in an exciting, fast-moving environment, preparing food to order, cleaning and washing up, stock management, whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance with hygiene regulations at all times.

Union Bar Catering Assistant - £8.45 + holiday pay (Average hours – eight per week)

Our Bars Catering Team are committed to producing brilliant burgers, delicious pizzas and tasty sandwiches. You’ll work alongside our Chefs as part of a tight-knit team in an exciting, fast-moving environment, preparing food to order, cleaning and washing up, whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance with hygiene regulations at all times.

Bar Staff - £8.45ph + holiday pay

Venues Bar Staff : With over 400 shows a year, boasting the likes of Muse, Prince, The 1975, and Stormzy, Manchester Academy Venues are some of the busiest venues in the UK. Do you have excellent customer service skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced team and are high energy in nature? Then the venues bar staff position is for you

Union Bar Staff : The Union Bar is the social hub of the Union. With our newly developed food and cocktail menu and an ever increasing product range we are busier than ever. If you enjoy working in a bustling social environment with a huge variety of customers, serving food and great drinks and really going the extra mile for people then the Union Bar staff position is for you!

Key Resources:

To work in either role you’ll need to be available on Friday and Saturday evenings,  including some finishes as late as 06:00 (although that doesn’t mean you will have to work every single one!). You will also be expected to work at every Pangaea festival and be available for some shifts during Welcome Week. Union Bar by nature has more work available during the daytime hours but both will require commitment at evenings and weekends. For both positions you will need to show excellent customer service skills, team work and be high energy in nature. Please indicate your preference for Union Bar or Venues on your application.

  • Pangaea festivals are compulsory shifts for all bar staff

Project Assistant: Diversity & Inclusion Student Ambassador Project

We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join this HEFCE-funded project. Working alongside the Project Manager and colleagues and Student Officers at the Students’ Union, you’ll be helping to support the University of Manchester’s Diversity and Wellbeing Student Ambassador Programme, with the aim of improving outcomes, specifically attainment and student experience, for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students. You’ll be part of a wider project looking at similar themes at University of Birmingham and Manchester Metropolitan University.
