Hey! My name is Tamara O'Neill and I am your Activities and Development Officer for 2016/2017.
My first encounter with the Students' Union was Welcome Week where the buzz and undeniable spirit of students selling every aspect of student life inspired me to start getting involved in activities outside the lecture hall. I was first elected as Events Manager for the BA Econ society, then volunteered for Nightline and began working behind the Union Bar. Working part-time really opened my eyes to what the Students' Union is, not just a living wage employer, but it provides the most diverse range of activities, campaigns, and support with award-winning venues and of course hosts Pangaea Festival, the largest student-led festival in Europe!
With experience in planning events, I am passionate about ensuring the Union caters for all students, putting on even more events that are fun, accessible and run by students! I understand that student development should be at the forefront of all our activities, ensuring we listen to student feedback and supply creative opportunities that will put you at an advantage to gain essential skills for life after University.
My favourite thing about the Students' Union
My favourite thing about the Union is endless amount on offer for students. You can get involved in absolutely anything and everything which takes the University of Manchester’s student experience to new levels.
My Top Priorities:
1. Enhancing the Student Nightlife with more creative events hosted by societies collaborating together
2. Create an App for Student Activities to showcase all 480 societies, volunteering projects and campaigns!
3. Ensuring the SU is affordable for all students from more daily deals in the Union Bar to student prices on gigs in the Academy venues
4. Improving society support through an updated website, an app for finance and a resource hub to get the best deals
5. Campaigning for an energy-efficient University
