HOW WE'RE RUN

The Students' Union is a charity and a company limited by guarantee. We are also a democratically run membership organisation, with over 40,000 members.

The Students' Union is overseen by its Board of Trustees, who have ultimate responsibility for the organisation.

Our stances and policy decisions are made by our democratic processes, in which every student can have their say.

We employ Staff to help carry out our goals and objectives.

 


 

 

FUNDING

We are a charity. Our funding is generated in the following ways:

A block grant from the University

Donations and other grants

Revenue from our Shops & Venues*

* Money spent in the Shops & Venues at the Students’ Union goes back into funding student services. When you buy a sandwich, a pint, a coffee, you are actually helping to support our core services and, in turn, helping the Students' Union amplify student life.

AFFILIATIONS

The Students' Union is affiliated to the following bodies:

   1. National Union of Students - £52,833

   2. Advice UK – £220

Affiliations are approved on an annual basis by students at the Annual Members Meeting.

 


 

 

OPERATIONAL POLICIES

The Students' Union is run in accordance with a number of operational policies that are set by the Trustee Board or its Committees.

These are put in place by the Board to govern the conduct of staff and ensure the Union complies with its legal obligations. These policies remain in place until revised or revoked by the Board.

The Students' Union also has a number of democratically approved policies, which are passed by students, which are available to view here.

Placed at the heart of campus, the University of Manchester Students’ Union is the hub of student life. We understand better than anyone that student life isn’t just about studying. It’s about supporting change; helping students make friends, gain vital skills for life, enjoy new experiences and campaign on something important.

We’ve been facilitating that for the last 155 years. As the largest Students’ Union in the country, our mission is to be the voice of students at Manchester, effecting change and enriching student life together.

Our vision is for all students to feel part of the Manchester community where they can develop, prepare for their future and can make a difference in the world around them.

Whether you work behind the scenes, front of house, in the SU Bar, Bikos, Retail or provide support to our 40,000 students, you’ll be working towards the same goal - ensuring our student members love their time at Manchester.

Senior Operations Manager (Full time, 35hrs)

 

The University of Manchester Students’ Union and Manchester Academy is a unique organisation. We help people create memories that last a lifetime. We have a fantastic programme of events that attract over 350,000 people a year and we strive to create an incredible experience for all our visitors.

We’re looking for an experienced operations manager, with knowledge of everything important to make our events shine. You will be expected to have a keen eye for detail to enable first class delivery that involves working with a wide range of stakeholders.  From some of the most famous names in music to our student societies and everything in between, you will need to have a pro-active delivery style as well as experience of getting the most out of a team.

You may already be working in a venue, a high volume licensed premises or another area of the events industry. The thing which will attract you to this role will be the fast paced, ever changing needs of our clients and you’ll want to go the extra mile to cement our reputation as one of the best venues around. You’ll have all the necessary qualifications, but we’ll also invest in your development throughout your time here.

U Print is currently closed at the Students’ Union due to the on-going building works. It has moved to MU Print where you can still use all the printing services.
