The Advice Service is open Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm all year round - both in and out of University terms, with the exception of public holidays and occasional training days. During these times you can drop-in, book an appointment, telephone or email us.
If we are busy, the drop in and telephone service may be limited. Our advisors will ensure that enquiries are prioritised according to urgency and where deadlines apply advice will be given within this timeframe.

The Students’ Union Advice Service is confidential and is committed to treating your personal information with respect and in accordance with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation.
Any information you provide will not be shared outside the Advice Service unless we have your permission or there are exceptional reasons for us to disclose information to a third party. The Advice Service has a Confidentiality Policy which must be followed by all advisors. You can access the Policy here.
When you contact us for advice we will open a confidential case file for you and record your personal information, details of your enquiry and any advice given. Information such as your course, gender, etc will be used for statistical purposes only and will not identify you when compiling reports. Your details will be recorded and stored securely in line with the Data Protection Act 2018.
The Advice Service currently holds the Advice Quality Standard (AQS) quality mark and our files may be audited by the Advice Services Alliance as part of their quality assurance check. Any personal data reviewed by an auditor will remain confidential. We ask for your consent for your file to be available for audit. You reserve the right to refuse this request.
If you do not agree that the details of your case can be recorded and stored by the Advice Service and / or you do not wish your file to be made available to AQS for auditing purposes, please let us know.

Contacting the Advice Service:
If you seek advice face to face then you will be asked to complete an enquiry form, where you can give your consent for a case to be opened. If you call us, we will ask for your consent to record your personal details and open a case file for you.
If you email the Advice Service, the information that you provide will be used to open a confidential case file. If you do not consent to a case file being opened, you can tell us in your email.
When you contact us by e-mail, please provide us with the following information:
1. Full name and student ID
2. Course title
3. Year and mode of study
4. Whether you pay home or international fees
5. Telephone number
6. Brief description of the issue - include the date of an official deadline you may be working to
