Victoria - Advice Service Manager

Hi, my name is Victoria and I am the Advice Service Manager.  I have been working at the Students' Union Advice Service for nearly two years.

Prior to this I worked for the charity Shelter, where I was a legal advisor specialising in housing.  This role entailed working with the most vulnerable in society to provide free legal advice and court representation to ensure that homelessness was prevented.

I studied law at the University of East Anglia where I spent an ERASMUS year in Belgium studying EU law. I then went on to complete the BVC and a Masters at MMU, where I specialised in EU law.  When I am not working at the Students' Union I work in a vintage and retro clothes shop that I own.

Rebekah - Senior Advisor

Hi, my name’s Rebekah. I’ve been an Advisor at the Students’ Union for nearly six  years and I am currently working as a Senior Advisor.

I love being an Advisor because of all the different students I get to meet and the wide variety of issues which we help students with.

Previously I studied Psychology and Criminology at Keele University and volunteered as a mentor for prospective university students in my final year. I’ve also worked at Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College as a Learning Support Assistant working with students with disabilities. Please note that I do not work Fridays.

Su - Senior Advisor

Hi, I am Su. I have been working as a full time advisor at the Students’ Union for just over two years. I am a senior advisor in the Advice Service.

Before this, I worked at the Citizens Advice Bureau attached to Salford Royal Hospital as a paralegal advisor, specialising in welfare benefits and community care. I also worked on a project giving advice to families with children under 5 at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and in Children’s Centres across Salford.

I studied Politics and Modern History at the University of Manchester and graduated in 2008. It’s great to be working with Manchester students and seeing how much the Students’ Union has grown over the past few years. In my spare time, I love to see live music and go to festivals. I have also just started learning to play the electric guitar!

Vicki - Student Advisor

Hi I’m Vicki and I am a Student Advisor within the Advice Team at the Students’ Union. I have over 7 years’ experience in Advice and Guidance.

My previous role was as a Community Advisor which involved providing advice, guidance and support on a wide range of issues, including Welfare Benefits, Housing and Wellbeing.

I have a degree in Criminology which I completed at Lancaster University. I also have a Diploma and Level 4 award in Drug, Solvent and Alcohol Abuse Counselling.

I am particularly interested in campaigning to end the stigma and discrimination experienced by people with mental health problems.

Laura - Student Advisor

Hi, my name is Laura and I am one of the Student Advisors here at the Students’ Union.

I graduated from The University of Manchester in 2014 with a BA Hons in English Literature and American Studies.  Starting University as a mature student was a little scary, as I had been out of education for about 10 years; but I did bring with me a wealth of work experience.

I started at the Students’ Union in August 2014, as a Student Representation Intern, working to train and support student who were studying in the faculty of Humanities. This role then helped me to gain the experience that I needed to apply for the role as an advisor, and I have been in this current role since the end of April 2015.

In my spare time I am part of an amateur dramatics society and have recently stared in The Witches of Eastwick.
