NUS Delegate Elections

As a member of the National Union of Students (NUS) we are able to send a number of students to a range of National Conferences. These conference places are elected in an online election and a variety of delegate positions are available to University of Manchester students. If you are elected the Students' Union will cover your travel and accomodation expenses.


NUS National Conference

The highest decision-making body of the entire NUS structure, this is the largest NUS Conference and one of the largest gatherings of student representatives in Europe and the world, with over 1000 delegates. Responsible for setting NUS policy and electing the National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, it also elects the full-time National President and the five Vice-Presidents.

27th - 29th March, Glasgow

How many delegate places are available: 11 - 5 places are reserved for women candidates and our General Secretary is guaranteed a place.

Black Students' Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the independent NUS Black Students Campaign setting its policy and organising its work. It also elects the Black Students Committee and the full-time Black Students Officer.

20th -21st May 2017, Location TBC

How many delegate places are available: 1

Eligibility requirements: You must self-define as a black student.


Trans Conference

Trans Conference has the power to agree on policy that will take effect after it has been adopted by LGBT+ Conference where LGBT+ members have the power to amend or vote down policy passed at Trans Conference. This Conference brings together delegates from students' unions affiliated to NUS UK to debate and vote on motions and elect the full-time Trans Students' Officer.

How many delegate places are available: 5 - there are reserved spaces for a Woman, Black student. Disabled student and 1 non-binary place. Two places are guaranteed for our Trans Students' Officers.

Eligibility requirements: You must self-define as a Trans student.


LGBT+ Conference

The LGBT+ Conference is the highest decision-making body of the independent NUS LGBT+ campaign. It also elects the LGBT+ Committee and the two full-time NUS LGBT+ Officers. LGBT+ is the second largest of all the NUS Conferences after National Conference.

7th - 9th March 2018, Location TBC

How many delegate places are available: 8 - there are a number of reserved places and our two LGBQ Students' Officers are guaranteed a place.

Eligibility requirements: You must self-define as an LGBT+ student.


Disabled Students' Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the independent NUS Disabled Students Campaign, setting its policy. It also elects the Disabled Students Committee and the full-time Disabled Students Officer.

10th April - 12th April 2018, Location TBC

How many delegate places are available: 1

Eligibility requirements: You must self-define as a disabled student. This includes mental health issues and does not need to be declared to the University. 


Women's Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the independent NUS Women's Campaign, setting its policy. It also elects the Women's Committee and the full-time National Women's Officer.

1st May - 3rd May 2018, Location TBC

How many delegate places are available: 4 - One place must be filled by a Black Woman and one by a Woman who is either Black, Disabled or LGBT+. One place is reserved for our Women's Officer.

Eligibility requirements: You must self-define as a woman or have a gender identity that includes woman.


International Students' Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the NUS International Students section, setting its policy. It also elects the International Students Committee and the full-time International Students Officer.

27th April 2018, Location TBC

How many delegate places are available: 1

Eligibility requirements: You must be an international student (EU or overseas).


Postgraduate Students' Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the NUS Postgraduate Students section, setting its policy. It also elects the Postgraduate Students Committee.

Eligibility requirements: You must be a postgraduate student.


Mature and Part-Time Students' Conference

This conference is the highest decision-making body of the NUS Mature and Part-Time Students section, setting its policy. It also elects the Mature and Part-Time Students Committee.
