Charity of the Year

This year Manchester RAG has nominated Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity, as their Charity of the Year. Alzheimer’s Research UK has a vision for a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia. You can read more about their work on their website.

Manchester RAG will be hosting fundraisers for Alzheimer’s Research UK throughout the year. You can find out more about these events on Manchester RAG’s Facebook.

If you or your society are planning to get involved with fundraising this year but haven’t yet chosen a charity, Manchester RAG would recommend supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK. If you do choose to support our Charity of the Year, please contact us through Facebook to find out how we can help make your fundraiser a success!

Current Challenges

Accordian left Everest Base Camp for Hope for Children Find more...

Arguably the most beautiful trekking route in the world, this 11-day challenge follows a scenic route through the stunning Nepali Himalaya, taking you across glacial rivers and suspension bridges, through dense forest and bustling mountain towns.

This is a challenging but rewarding trek, climbing to heights of 5,545m above sea level to culminate with a glorious golden sunrise over the highest peak on the planet, Mount Everest.

Accordian left Kilimanjaro for Dip Deep Find more...

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa and climbing it is one of the all-time great achievements. It’s the largest freestanding mountain in the world and the trek encompasses terrains from jungle to glacier. Reaching the summit and watching the sun rise over the vast African plains truly is the experience of a lifetime.

Registration for both of these challenges is now closed. If you’d like to take on a once-in-a-lifetime challenge during the next academic year, follow Manchester RAG on Facebook and keep an eye out for details.

Accordian left Jailbreak Find more...

How far can you get in 30 hours without spending a penny? Taking place on 27th March 2020, race across the country and beyond in teams of 2 to raise money for charity and see who can make it the furthest. Last year our teams made it to Singapore, New York and Lisbon - think you have what it takes to beat that?

This year Jailbreak will be supporting Mary’s Meals, a charity feeding 1,504,471 children around the world every school day. To find out more about their work, check out their website.

If you’re interested in taking part in Jailbreak 2020, or would like to know more about this challenge, check out the Facebook event for further details and sign up online through the SU website.

Holding your own fundraiser

Whether you’re a registered student group or an individual hoping to make a difference, the Volunteering & Fundraising team are here to support you with your fundraising activities. Simply complete the relevant forms below, or drop us an email at volunteering.su@manchester.ac.uk. Alternatively, we host a drop-in every Monday, 2pm-4pm in the Activities Office, first floor SU.

Fundraising forms

Hire a fundraising bucket: compulsory for all cash fundraising activities. Complete this form and the Student Activities team will prepare the bucket for collection from the Student Activities Office (SU first floor) on the specified date. We guarantee to prepare all buckets requested at least three working days in advance during semester time. If you submit a request within three working days of your event, we will endeavour to fulfil your request but this cannot be guaranteed.

Book a venue – to arrange a space for your fundraiser, email activities.su@manchester.ac.uk or drop in to the Activities Office (first floor SU) and chat to a receptionist. For logistical support with your event, you can also link up with our dedicated Events Team.

Public charity collection form: if you are planning a public collection such as a street collection, supermarket bag pack, shopping centre collection or raid, you will need to apply for a permit from Manchester City Council.

The Volunteer Hub

All volunteering and fundraising projects should be registered on the Volunteer Hub, a tool for managing and recruiting volunteers and logging volunteer hours. Use your student email address if you wish to register as a student. If you wish to register your society or organisation, please use an email address that is NOT your student email address.
